Things to Do In Hilton Head with Kids

Family on their Hilton Head Dolphin Cruise - Hilton Head, SC

Hilton Head Island is a stunning barrier island located off the coast of South Carolina and offers many activities for kids. From outdoor excursions to cultural attractions, Hilton Head provides various exciting options for children to explore and enjoy during their stay. Here are some of the best things to do in Hilton Head with Kids

  1. Spend a day at Coligny Beach Park – Coligny Beach Park is one of the most popular beaches on the island and offers plenty to do for people of all ages. The shallow waters are perfect for young swimmers, so don’t forget your swimming gear! There’s a playground, spouting water fountains, public bathrooms, beach chair rentals, and lifeguards on duty during peak hours. For those of you that are more shopping minded – there are plenty of fun stores for kids at Coligny Plaza Hilton Head.
  2. Visit the Harbour Town Lighthouse – This iconic lighthouse is located in the Sea Pines Resort and is an exciting spot for adults and children. You can climb to the top of the lighthouse for spectacular views of the Calibogue Sound or learn about the area’s history as you walk up the stairs to the observation deck.
  3. Tour Sea Pines Forest Preserve – This preserve is home to forests, marshes, and lagoons, which offer refuge for native wildlife such as birds, turtles, deer, alligators, otters, and more. You can take guided tours or explore on your own through six miles of trails that range from easy to moderate difficulty levels – perfect for little legs!
  4. Explore the Coastal Discovery Museum Hilton Head – The museum offers interactive exhibits that teach visitors about Lowcountry history and ecology through hands-on activities such as nature walks and scavenger hunts. The nearby Honey Horn Plantation provides additional educational opportunities like blacksmithing demonstrations and live animal shows where kids can meet local critters up close.
  5. Play mini-golf at Pirate’s Island Adventure Golf – What kid doesn’t love mini-golf? Pirate’s Island Adventure Golf offers 18 holes full of obstacles like windmills and pirate ships with cannons. The course also features two cascading waterfalls with treasure chests – see if you can find them! If you want to mix it up a little – Adventure Cove Mini Golf is also fantastic, and it has a video arcade and ice cream shop inside as well – get for kids of all ages.
  6. Take a private Hilton Head Dolphin Tour Hilton Head Boat Charters https://hhiboatcharters.com/. Experience dolphins in their natural habitat with a boat tour led by experienced guides on one of our highly rated Dolphin Tours in Hilton Head. Watch below – you may even spot a few sharks too! We also offer a great Hilton Head Sunset Cruise! So if you are game for fun and a 100% private Hilton Head Boat Tour – give us a holler:)
  7. Have fun at Shelter Cove Community Park – This park has something everyone will enjoy, including a theater where live music performances are held; plus playgrounds; picnic areas; walking trails; restaurants, shopping, Kilwins Ice Cream shop; plus much more! For more information on Shelter Cove, click Park — Shelter Cove Towne Centre.
  8. Jarvis Creek Park is a beautiful park on Hilton Head Island located at the island’s north end. It includes walking trails, picnic areas, and playgrounds. The walking trail is excellent for getting some exercise, and when walking around the pond – you will almost always see an alligator or two! The park has something for everyone, but it is especially great for kids!
  9. Hunt for shells at Folly Field Beach Park – Folly Field Beach Park gives shell collectors access to miles of unspoiled shoreline where they can hunt down dozens of different types of shells, including starfish – just be sure not to take any live ones home! Plus, it’s near other attractions like Adventure Cove Miniature Golf, so that you can combine your visit here into another fun activity!
  10. Go horseback riding. This is one of my favorite fun things to do in Hilton Head Island activities for kids. It’s an unforgettable way to spend time together as a family while admiring the natural beauty from atop these majestic animals. If you have older children (or brave younger ones!), why not try something they won’t soon forget? Lawton Stables in Sea Pines is the best place for horseback riding. It is located in Sea Pines down on the island’s south end.
  11. Paddleboarding and Kayaking – The calm backwaters or Hilton Head are ideal for this fun activity. You will learn about the local wildlife and even meet some of them up close and personal. Outside Hilton Head has tons of fantastic offerings for all skill levels.

So, there you have it, our top choices for fun things to do in Hilton Head for kids and families. We hope you have a total blast when visiting our little slice of paradise!
